Asbury Park is one of the most dog-friendly towns along the Jersey Shore. Below are some of our favorite dog-friendly activities to do in Asbury Park.
Meet And Play with Other Dogs
Is your dog friendly and good with other dogs? Take them to two of the best place for dogs on the Jersey Shore, Wonder Bar’s Yappy Hour and the Asbury Park dog beach. The Asbury Park dog beach is a great place for your dog to run and take a swim, while Yappy Hour provides a monitored, fenced-in area with dog pools where you can also enjoy a cold beverage!
Asbury Park Dog Beach
Location
The beach area located around 8th Ave. Use the Deal Lake Drive entrance or the entrance at the north end of the Fisherman’s Parking Lot to get onto the beach.
Asbury Park Dog Beach Hours
May 16th – September 14th: Dogs are only allowed 6:00pm – 8:30am during the beach season. You WILL be kicked off at any other time.
September 15th – May 15th: Dogs are allowed on the dog beach at all times.
Keep In Mind
Dogs must be supervised at all times. Dogs who become aggressive and out of control must be leashed and promptly removed. And of course, make sure to clean up after your dog!
Wonder Bar Yappy Hour
Location
Fenced-in outdoor area of Wonder Bar, located at Fifth and Ocean Avenues.
Yappy Hour Days And Times
Yappy Hour is typically open April through October, with frequent additional pop-up yappy hours on warm days. During peak season, they are open 12pm – 6pm on Mondays and Thursdays through Sundays. It’s best to check their Facebook and Instagram pages for the most up-to-date information, as they will close or delay due to excessive heat, thunderstorms, or interfering events.
Keep In Mind
Dogs must be neutered and have current rabies tag or dog license. Choke, prong and spike collars are not permitted. There is dog security at all times but keep an eye on your own dog and make sure to clean up after them!
Check Out Public Works Of Art
Thanks to the Wooden Walls Project, a community engagement arts initiative, public art is very well alive in Asbury Park. Murals adorn many of the buildings on and near the boardwalk, as well as downtown. There are many opportunities to see the works of local and national artists, and to take an Instagram-worth pic while you’re at it.
On the north side of Convention Hall, check out murals on both the ocean and street sides of Sunset Pavilion, or find the murals on the walls of the wastewater treatment facility between 7th and 8th aves. Head towards the Ocean Grove border to see the murals and “Greetings from Asbury Park” sign on the historic casino and steam plant buildings. You can also find more artwork on downtown buildings including the police station, Booskerdoo, and Asbury Lanes.

Shop With Your Dog
Want to create a memorable keepsake or pick up some homemade dog treats with your dog? Visit the stores in Asbury that allow dogs.
Paws Pet Boutique
Located at 658 Cookman Avenue in the Shoppes at the Arcade. The shop is also a consistent vendor at the Asbury Fresh Farmers Market in Library Square from May through November. Paws Pet Boutique sells a range of stuff for your dog, including pet accessories, toys, leashes and K9 Confections homemade dog treats. We always pick up a bag of peanut butter flavored dog treats on our Sunday visits to their booth at the farmers’ market.
Hot Sand
Located at 550 Cookman Avenue, Suite 103. Make an appointment to bring your dog to the Hot Sand glass blowing studio and create a glass keepsake of your dog’s paws. Or you can pick up a kit to do at home and mail it in.
Carla Gizzi
Located within Convention Hall on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. A great spot to grab some Asbury Park or Jersey Shore goods, the shop sells vintage-inspired jewelry, clothing and home decor. It is a small and narrow shop so we don’t recommend bringing your dog in during busy times.
