About Us

two dogs sit at the edge of a lake

We’re Nico and Ruthie, two adopted husky mixes who were rescued from kill shelters. We love chasing each other on the beach, laying in the sun, and traveling anywhere for new sights and smells.

Ruthie

I’m Ruthie. My DNA test told me I’ve got a pinch of everything, including husky, chihuahua, beagle, miniature poodle and german shepherd. My genes are mixed, but I am 100% a lovebug who loves cuddling, running on the beach and staring at squirrels for 8+ hours a day. I’m named after Ruth Bader Ginsburg because I, too, am small but mighty.

Nico

I’m Nico. I didn’t take a DNA test because I look exactly 50/50 husky/blue heeler. I have a soft howl that melts everyone’s hearts and my personality is partly sweet goofball and partly Mr. Independent. I can be selective about my new dog friends, but I am 100% the best boy. I love running on the beach, digging holes, and giving hugs and kisses to every human I encounter.

Reactivity

We can be dog reactive, especially when together. This means popular hiking trails at peak hours, crowded campgrounds and dog friendly patios that characterize most travel destinations are at the bottom of our list for a relaxing vacation. But reactivity hasn’t changed our ability to travel. It has simply modified HOW we travel. By doing research and planning ahead, we’ve hiked to some of the most beautiful views and stayed at some of the most jaw-dropping camping spots.

Every dog is different, so we can only speak from our own experience. But we created this site to share some of our favorite places, experiences and lessons that we’ve learned while navigating this road of life.
